INCLINE GALLERY, SAN FRANCISCO
A frequency map of movement taken at the exact cross-section of a beating heart. Projected sound waves capture the palpitations, reflecting their intensity in the rythmic pattern that results.
In 2018 I helped organize a group show at Incline Gallery in San Francisco's mission district, which was thematically centered around the title of the show, fault lines. My contribution was in consideration of the most sismic shift I had experienced in meeting my son, Leo. I created this relief print laser etched in acrylic. The dot-matrix pattern was created from an ultrasound image, a cross-section of my son's beating heart from the womb. My wife and I were notified of what ultimately was a benign cyst that was discovered during routine imaging. The unsettling discovery put us through an emotional roller coaster of fear and uncertainty around our son's well-being. This was the only image I had to connect with him at the time, which became for me his portrait.
