LORENZO HOMAR GALLERY
FILADELFIA: NEW PERSPECTIVES | TALLER PUERTORRIQUENO
The Guardian series explores power dynamics and political unrest and the conflicting role of law enforcement. Images of miniature riot police are posed in heroic, yet threatening stances. Despite their diminutive stature they assume an authoritarian posture reinforced by the positioning gazing down to the viewer. Their armored suits purposefully obscure any connection to the person beneath them, providing a barrier to empathy. The detachment of human connection is furthered by the digital translation and production method. The 3D printed surface is optimized to remove traces of my own figural biases and roboticizes the form. The were created in response to violent repression of protests in Venezuela, Ukraine, USA which occurred simultaneously and the increased patterns of militaristic police force against civilian populations across the globe.
